Sentence Writing

Now let's practice writing our own sentences! Remember to use capital letters at the start, periods at the end, and spaces between words.

Three Rules for Writing Sentences

Every Sentence Needs These Three Things!

A capital letter at the start, spaces between words, and a period at the end.

1

Capital Letter

Start with a BIG letter. The first letter is always capital.

2

Finger Spaces

Put a finger space between each word so they don't bump together.

3

Period

End with a period (a little dot). This shows the sentence is done.

Starting with a Capital Letter

Remember: The first letter of every sentence is a capital (big) letter!

See the Capital Letter

The dog is happy.

The "T" in "The" is a capital letter because it starts the sentence!

More Examples

I like pizza.

My cat is soft.

We can play.

Finger Spaces Between Words

Tip: Put your finger down after each word to make a space. This is called a "finger space"!

How to Use Finger Spaces

The
finger space
cat
finger space
is
finger space
big.

Right Way vs. Wrong Way

Thecatisfat. vs. The cat is fat.

Spaces help us read each word!

Ending with a Period

Remember: A period is a small dot at the end of a sentence. It tells us "STOP! The sentence is done."

Where Does the Period Go?

I see a bird.

The period goes right at the end, after the last word!
