Rules Keep Us Safe

Some rules protect us from getting hurt. "Walk, don't run" keeps us from falling. "Keep hands to yourself" keeps everyone safe from being pushed or hit.

Remember: Everyone follows rules - even grown-ups! Teachers follow rules, parents follow rules, and even the President follows rules. Rules help our whole world work better!

Examples

Let's see how following rules helps everyone!

Example 1: Raising Your Hand

The Rule: Raise your hand and wait to be called on.

Why it helps: If everyone shouted at once, no one could hear anything! When we raise our hands and take turns, everyone gets a chance to share their ideas.

What it looks like: Maya has an answer. She raises her hand high and waits quietly. The teacher calls on her, and everyone can hear her great idea!

Example 2: Walking in the Hallway

The Rule: Walk, don't run, in the hallway.

Why it helps: Running could cause someone to fall and get hurt, or bump into another person.

What it looks like: The class walks in a line to the lunchroom. Everyone is safe, and no one gets hurt!

Example 3: Using Kind Words

The Rule: Use kind words with your classmates.

Why it helps: Kind words make people feel good. Mean words hurt feelings and make people sad.

What it looks like: Tommy says "Great job!" when his friend finishes a puzzle. His friend smiles and feels proud!

Example 4: Cleaning Up

The Rule: Clean up when you're done playing or working.

Why it helps: When everyone cleans up, the classroom stays nice for everyone. Nobody trips on toys left on the floor!

What it looks like: After art time, everyone puts away crayons and throws away scraps. The tables are ready for the next activity!

Example 5: Taking Turns

The Rule: Take turns and share with others.

Why it helps: There might not be enough toys or supplies for everyone at once. Taking turns means everyone gets a chance!

What it looks like: Lily wants the red crayon, but Sam is using it. She waits patiently, and Sam shares it when he's done. Both friends are happy!
