🗣️ Sharing Observations

Learn to tell others what you noticed and how you know!

📖 Learn

Scientists don't keep their observations a secret! They share what they learn with others. When we share, we tell people:

Two Important Parts

  1. What I noticed (my claim) - Tell what you observed
  2. How I know (my evidence) - Tell what sense you used

When we share observations, we use sentences like:

  • "I noticed _____ because I saw/heard/felt/smelled/tasted _____."
  • "The _____ is _____ because I used my _____ to find out."

🔍 Remember: Good scientists always tell HOW they know something. Use your senses as your evidence!

  • 👀 "I know because I SAW it with my eyes."
  • 👂 "I know because I HEARD it with my ears."
  • ✋ "I know because I FELT it with my hands."
  • 👃 "I know because I SMELLED it with my nose."
  • 👅 "I know because I TASTED it with my tongue."

💡 Examples

Let's practice sharing observations the scientist way!

🍋 Example 1: Observing a Lemon

What I noticed: The lemon is yellow and bumpy.

How I know: I used my eyes to see the yellow color. I used my hands to feel the bumpy skin.

👀✋ "I noticed the lemon is yellow and bumpy because I saw it with my eyes and felt it with my hands."

🔔 Example 2: Observing a Bell

What I noticed: The bell makes a ringing sound.

How I know: I heard it with my ears when I shook it.

👂 "I noticed the bell makes a ringing sound because I heard it with my ears."

🧸 Example 3: Observing a Teddy Bear

What I noticed: The teddy bear is soft and fuzzy.

How I know: I touched it with my hands.

"I noticed the teddy bear is soft and fuzzy because I felt it with my hands."

🍪 Example 4: Observing a Cookie

What I noticed: The cookie smells sweet like chocolate.

How I know: I smelled it with my nose.

👃 "I noticed the cookie smells sweet because I used my nose to smell it."

✅ Check Your Understanding

Answer these questions to show what you learned.

1. What are the two parts of sharing an observation?

Think: What you noticed AND how you know!

2. If you say "The apple is red," what sense did you use?

Think: What body part helps you see colors?

3. Why is it important to tell HOW you know something?

Think: How do people believe what you say?

4. Finish this sentence: "I noticed the ice is cold because I _____ it with my _____."

Think: Which sense tells you about temperature?
