Mixed Set
Learn
This final lesson in the Skill Mapping unit tests your ability to apply all the skills you've mapped and practiced. Like the actual SAT/ACT, this mixed set combines questions from all skill domains in random order.
Using This Mixed Set
- Time yourself: Aim for about 1 minute per question
- No calculator first: Try each problem mentally or with paper first
- Track your domains: Note which skill area each problem tests
- Review thoroughly: After finishing, analyze every error
What This Set Measures
This practice set will help you assess:
- Your ability to switch between problem types
- Retention of concepts from earlier lessons
- Your readiness for the next unit on Weekly Practice
Examples
Sample Mixed Approach
When you see a problem, quickly identify:
Question: A shirt marked at $60 is on sale for 25% off. What is the sale price?
Identify: This is a percentage problem (Problem Solving)
Strategy: Find 25% of 60, then subtract from 60
Solve: 25% of 60 = 15. Sale price = 60 - 15 = $45
Practice Quiz
Complete this mixed set, tracking which skill domain each tests.
Question 1: Solve: 5x - 3 = 2x + 12
Answer: x = 5
Domain: Algebra
5x - 2x = 12 + 3; 3x = 15; x = 5
Question 2: The ratio of apples to oranges is 3:4. If there are 28 fruits total, how many are apples?
Answer: 12 apples
Domain: Problem Solving
Total parts = 7; each part = 4; apples = 3 x 4 = 12
Question 3: A rectangle has length 15 and perimeter 46. What is its width?
Answer: 8
Domain: Geometry
P = 2L + 2W; 46 = 30 + 2W; 16 = 2W; W = 8
Question 4: Find the mean of: 7, 12, 15, 8, 18
Answer: 12
Domain: Data Analysis
Sum = 60; Mean = 60/5 = 12
Question 5: If f(x) = 2x + 5, find f(-3)
Answer: -1
Domain: Algebra (Functions)
f(-3) = 2(-3) + 5 = -6 + 5 = -1
Question 6: A price increased from $50 to $65. What is the percent increase?
Answer: 30%
Domain: Problem Solving
Increase = 15; Percent = (15/50) x 100 = 30%
Question 7: The angles of a triangle are in the ratio 1:2:3. Find the largest angle.
Answer: 90 degrees
Domain: Geometry
Total parts = 6; 180/6 = 30 per part; largest = 3 x 30 = 90
Question 8: Simplify: 3(2x - 4) - 2(x + 3)
Answer: 4x - 18
Domain: Algebra
6x - 12 - 2x - 6 = 4x - 18
Question 9: In a class of 30 students, 40% received an A. How many students received an A?
Answer: 12 students
Domain: Problem Solving
0.40 x 30 = 12
Question 10: What is the slope of the line through (1, 4) and (3, 10)?
Answer: 3
Domain: Algebra (Linear)
Slope = (10 - 4)/(3 - 1) = 6/2 = 3
