Local Government

Have you ever wondered who takes care of your city or town? Local government is the group of people who work together to make your community a great place to live, learn, and play!

What is Local Government?

Local Government = Community Helpers in Charge

Local government is the group of elected leaders and workers who make decisions and provide services for your city, town, or county. They work close to where you live!

🏛️ Why Do We Need Local Government?

Imagine if there were no rules about where to build houses, no one to fix the roads, and no firefighters to help in emergencies. Local government makes sure:

  • Streets and parks are clean and safe
  • There are schools for kids to learn
  • Police and firefighters protect everyone
  • Clean water comes out of your faucet
  • Trash gets picked up from your home
Think About It: Local government is called "local" because these leaders work close to your home. They live in your community and understand what your neighborhood needs!
