Question Types
Learn
Sentence fixup questions come in different types. Learning to recognize each type helps you know what to look for!
Type 1: Find the Error
In this type, you read a sentence and find what is wrong. The sentence might have:
- A missing capital letter
- Wrong punctuation (or no punctuation)
- A spelling mistake
Type 2: Pick the Best Fix
In this type, you see a sentence with an underlined part. Then you pick from choices to fix it.
Type 3: Is It Correct?
Sometimes a sentence is already correct! You need to decide: "Does this need a fix, or is it okay?"
Examples
Example 1: Find the Error
"my dog likes to play fetch."
What's wrong? The word "my" should start with a capital M because it's the first word.
Fixed: "My dog likes to play fetch."
Example 2: Pick the Best Fix
"I like to eat appels for lunch."
Which is correct?
- A) appels
- B) apples
- C) aples
Answer: B) apples - This is the correct spelling!
Example 3: Is It Correct?
"The sun is shining today."
Check: Capital at the start? Yes! Period at the end? Yes! Spelling correct? Yes!
