Review Mistakes
Learn
Making mistakes is part of learning! The most important thing is to understand why an answer was wrong. This helps you do better next time.
Why Do We Make Mistakes?
Mistake Type 1: Reading Too Fast
Sometimes we miss important words because we read too quickly.
Fix it: Slow down and read every word in the question and passage.
Mistake Type 2: Not Going Back to Check
Sometimes we think we remember what the passage said, but we are wrong.
Fix it: Always go back to the passage to find the answer.
Mistake Type 3: Picking a "Tricky" Answer
Some wrong answers use words from the passage but are still wrong.
Fix it: Make sure your answer matches EXACTLY what the passage says.
Mistake Type 4: Not Reading All the Choices
Sometimes we pick the first answer that looks okay without reading the others.
Fix it: Read ALL answer choices before picking one.
How to Review a Mistake
- Read the question again carefully.
- Read the passage again.
- Look at the right answer. Why is it correct?
- Look at your wrong answer. Why is it wrong?
- Ask yourself: "What will I do differently next time?"
Examples
Example 1: Reviewing a Mistake
"The rabbit hopped across the green grass. It stopped to eat some clover."
Question: What did the rabbit eat?
- A) Carrots
- B) Grass
- C) Clover (Correct Answer)
- D) Lettuce
If you picked B (Grass):
This is a "tricky answer" mistake! The passage mentions "green grass," but the rabbit did not eat the grass. It ate clover. The word "grass" was there to trick you!
Lesson learned: Read carefully. Just because a word is in the passage does not mean it answers the question.
Example 2: Reviewing Another Mistake
"Maya woke up early on Saturday. She wanted to go to the zoo with her family."
Question: Where did Maya want to go?
- A) The park
- B) School
- C) The zoo (Correct Answer)
- D) The store
If you picked A (The park):
This might be a "reading too fast" mistake. Or maybe you guessed without going back to check. The passage clearly says "zoo."
Lesson learned: Always go back and find the exact word in the passage.
Practice
For each question below, first find the wrong answer. Then explain why it is wrong.
Passage 1:
"The sun was shining bright. Anna put on her hat and sunglasses. She was ready for the beach!"
Question 1: What did Anna put on?
Right answer: Her hat and sunglasses
Wrong answer: A swimsuit
Why is "A swimsuit" wrong? Write your answer in your head or on paper.
